Football fans asked to bring food tins to kick-off

Norwich City FC fans have been urged by a local food bank to bring tinned goods with them to their upcoming match.

Nourishing Norfolk is an initiative created by the Norfolk Community Foundation, which says its food banks help feed more than 35,000 people in the county.

Restaurant owner and honorary life president of Norwich City, Delia Smith, has offered her restaurant as one of the donation points on the day of the home match against Burnley.

Sophie Berry, the corporate giving manager from the foundation, said the TV chef's passion for providing good food for local people was "infectious".

The appeal for long-life nutritious food included items like tins of fruit, vegetables and baked beans.

"Just one tin can really make a difference," said Ms Berry.

Nourishing Norfolk has 26 food hubs across the county.

According to the charity, these establishments mean shoppers are able to save about 50% off their average weekly shop.

Volunteers offer support in a range of areas such as helping people into employment, advice on debt and domestic violence support.

Supporters will be able to make their donations at Carrow Road between 11:00 GMT and 15:00 at the Anglian Home Improvements vehicles near the Gunn Club and Delia's Restaurant entrances.

Anglian Home Improvements - one of the club's sponsors - said people not at the match could donate at The Nest in Holt Road, Horsford.
