Shropshire High Sheriff Brian Welti is calling for people to submit nominations for the annual awards

People are being asked to put forward youngsters known for helping their local communities in Shropshire to be recognised for their efforts.

The nominations are for the annual Shropshire High Sheriff's Outstanding Young Citizen Awards.

Organisers said they wanted to hear about anyone, aged 18 or under, who has shown an outstanding attitude through volunteering, fundraising or community activities.

Nominations close on 14 February with the awards due to be presented at Telford College on 10 March.

As well as individual winners, there will also be an overall champion selected for the education authorities of Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.

The High Sheriff, Brian Welti, said they were after those going the "extra mile" who should be recognised.

"Whether it's voluntary work and community activities such as fundraising, youth work and mentoring, or environmental projects like conservation and recycling, caring for a family member or being involved in a youth council, there are many reasons why young people deserve to be recognised," he added.
