The new Wisley Lane Bridge over the A3 has opened to traffic for the first time.

It is hoped the one-mile (1.6km) stretch will improve journeys along Wisley Lane, to Wisley Village and to Woking.

It will also provide access to the RHS Wisley Gardens.

Daniel Kittredge, National Highways senior project manager, said it was a "significant milestone" in the work to upgrade junction 10 of the M25.

Mr Kittredge said long-term benefits included access for cyclists, walkers and horse riders

Previous access both off and onto the A3 at the old Wisley Lane has been permanently closed.

To use the new bridge, drivers from the A3 southbound must take the first turning on the left between the A3 slip road exit and Ockham Lane North (B2039).

For those travelling northbound on the A3, access to Wisley will be via the M25 junction 10 gyratory to turn around and travel southbound.

Another bridge, the Clearmount, has been constructed as part of the junction 10 improvement scheme

It is one of two new bridges constructed this year as part of the project.

The new Clearmount bridge for pedestrians, cyclists and horseriders over the motorway is due to open at a later date.

The 61m (200ft), 450 tonne steel and concrete bridge replaces an original structure, which was demolished in March.

It was constructed off site before it was jacked into place on 2 and 3 November.

Mr Kittredge said the two bridges would "help reduce congestion, create a smoother flow of traffic and provide safer journeys for thousands every day".

National Highways has urged drivers to "take care through the junction" as the configuration has changed.

It said further new bridges would be installed in 2025, as part of the ongoing project.

Work is also set to include restoration of heathland, as well as the planting of new trees and woodland in other areas.

Two further full weekend closures of the M25 are due to take place in 2025.
