A lost ashes pendant has been reunited with its owner, police said.

Epsom and Ewell Beat said the item was claimed by a woman on Monday and that the pendant contained the ashes of her late husband.

In a social media post, police said: "Today she collected her dear John and was able to quote word for word the inscription on the back of the pendant."

The red glass piece of jewellery had been found in Epsom High Street on 11 December and was handed to police.

Epsom and Ewell Beat had previously urged people on social media to share an image of the lost item.

It had said: "We are hoping to reunite this sentimental piece of jewellery with the rightful owner this side of Christmas."
