Surrey PCC joins police on burglary foot patrol
Police have visited hundreds of residents in Surrey Heath as part of a burglary prevention initiative amid a "spate of offending".
Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Lisa Townsend has joined officers to reassure locals, issue prevention advice and give out free motion alarms.
Mrs Townsend said most burglaries took place when residents were out of their homes and during the hours of darkness.
"Becoming a victim of a burglary has a really significant impact that often lingers long after the crime has taken place," the PCC said.
Since the beginning of September, 43 burglaries have been committed in Surrey Heath, according to the PCC's office.
Mrs Townsend said: "The team here in Surrey Heath are doing all they can to track down the individuals responsible for these appalling crimes, and I know how hard all staff, officers and volunteers are working to end this spate of offending."
The PCC office said Mrs Townsend had joined officers on patrol in Camberley, Windlesham, Frimley, Lightwater, West End and Bisley.
It said officers had also visited about 400 homes in the area in recent weeks to reassure residents and and issue burglary prevention advice.
