Poor weather forces country park to cancel events

A Nottinghamshire country park has cancelled a Christmas event due to take place this weekend due to poor weather conditions.

The National Trust said the main car park at Clumber Park in Worksop would be closed for three days from Thursday.

The park's Christmas Fayre, due to take place on Saturday and Sunday has been cancelled over "torrential rain forecast", as well as the National Trust 10K run and a second-hand bike sale, the charity said

It comes after snowfall across the county on Monday night led to treacherous conditions.

In a notice to customers on social media, the National Trust said the Cow Pastures field car park would be closed until Sunday.

The park will remain open, but with only the hardstanding car park available, with the charity warning visitors "may be turned away".

"Due to the torrential rain forecast for Saturday, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Christmas Fayre," a spokesperson said.

"This decision has not been taken lightly, the safety of our people and visitors is our priority.

"We do have a long-term plan in place to develop additional all-weather parking throughout the estate. This will, of course, take time and need extensive funding."

Customers were also told anyone with pre-booked tickets to see Father Christmas on Saturday or Sunday would be let into the park.
