Venues close and events scrapped amid Storm Darragh
High winds and rain amid Storm Darragh have led to a number of events being cancelled in the run up to Christmas.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind in Nottinghamshire and across the East Midlands from Saturday until Sunday evening, with gusts of up to nearly 60mph in some areas.
Parks and other venues in the county also stayed closed Saturday citing concerns for public safety.
It comes just weeks after Storm Bert led to disruption in November.
In Nottingham, organisers of the Winter Wonderland attraction warned that its observation wheel would be closed to the public on Saturday, due to the bad weather.
Across the River Trent in West Bridgford, an annual Christmas drone show at the Trent Bridge cricket ground due to take place on Saturday evening has been postponed until Monday.
Michael Temple, Trent Bridge commercial director, said: "Postponement isn't a decision that anyone has taken lightly but when we look to the skies at 6pm we'll all understand why drones can't fly in what will be a pretty violent storm."
Marketing firm Yuup and organisers Celestial said they would continue to monitor the weather closely and were preparing to go ahead with the second performance planned on Sunday.
'Absolutely gutted'
Clumber Park in Worksop was also forced to cancel a second Christmas fayre this weekend, after an earlier event in November was scrapped due to Storm Bert.
The National Trust, which runs the site, decided to fully close the site to visitors.
Organisers of Ruddington Village Market also cancelled its final market of the year saying they were "absolutely gutted" in a social media notice.
"This is not something we take lightly - we know just how important December markets are to indie traders, and a highlight in the festive calendar," they said.
Wollaton Hall and Deer Park, in Nottingham, said it would be closed on Saturday with a "delayed opening" expected on Sunday.
