Food waste bins have been introduced in parts of north east Cornwall

Collections for food waste in parts of north east Cornwall are set to begin, council bosses have said.

A facebook post from Cornwall Council said the new bin system for towns including Bodmin, Padstow and Launceston would start on Monday.

The new system has an indoor food caddy which residents have been asked to fill up with waste items like tea bags, eggshells and veg peelings in biodegradable bags before placing these bags into a larger outdoor bin for collections.

The council said the new system, which is being rolled out across Cornwall, aimed to reduce the amount of non-recyclable rubbish produced in the county, with food waste being turned into farm fertiliser and clean energy.
