Man guilty of sex assault on girl begins jail term

A 37-year-old man has begun a six-year jail term after being convicted of sexually assaulting a girl.

Barry Thrower, of King Street, Desborough, Northamptonshire, was found guilty of sex assault and causing a girl to engage in sexual activity after a trial at Peterborough Court Court in May. He was jailed on Friday.

Cambridgeshire Police said Thrower, who entered not guilty pleas, had assaulted the girl, who was under 13, in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, in October 2022.

Det Con Les Ellmer said Thrower's sexual abuse "had a huge impact on his victim".

"I hope she can move forward and is now able to find some closure from this traumatic period of her life," he added.

Police said Thrower had "persuaded" the youngster to take part in sexual activity, then made her "pinky promise" not to tell anyone.

But the girl did speak to someone, who then contacted the police.

Thrower was also given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offenders' register.
