Who is Cambridgeshire and Peterborough mayoral candidate Anna Smith?

Deputy mayor and former council keader

Anna Smith is a Cambridge city councillor and the current deputy mayor for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority

She was also leader of Cambridge City Council between 2021 and 2023.

Smith has lived and worked in Cambridge since 1995 and is a former teacher at Hills Road Sixth Form College.

Transport policies

Smith says she is committed to fixing 100,000 potholes. She wants to continue the Tiger Pass, which allows under 25s to use the bus for £1 per journey. In addition, she wants to see safer bus stops with more CCTV and better lighting, plus a guaranteed last bus home.

Growing the county

Ensuring facilities are built around new developments is one of her priorities. These include schools, NHS services and shops.

She also pledges to end the "broadband postcode lottery" and ensure high-speed broadband is delivered across the region.

Jobs for young people

Smith says she will "create an opportunity guarantee" so young people can secure a well-paid job. She wants more training opportunities across the region and will create "opportunity forums".

Peterborough pool

She has pledged to "get Peterborough's indoor swimming pool back".
