Warning over fake parking QR code scam

Shropshire Council has put out a warning after fake QR codes were put up on some pay and display parking machines in Shrewsbury.

It on its Facebook account alongside a photograph of a fake code on Claremont Street.

The local authority said it did not use QR codes on any of its machines.

"These codes link to a fraudulent website. Please do not scan the code. If you do - or have done - please don’t supply your bank details," the post said.

"If you see one of these QR code stickers - in Shrewsbury or elsewhere - please gently remove it if you can and/or report it to us."

Similar scams have been highlighted across the West Midlands, including in Telford.

n September, Telford and Wrekin Council also said some residents had been sent fraudulent links via text message, telling them to pay fake penalty charge notices.
