Plan to turn at-risk building into 30-room hotel
Plans have been unveiled to convert a former doctors' surgery in Hull into a 30-room hotel.
John Symons House, built in 1862, is the last surviving Victorian villa on Park Row.
It has been considered to be at risk for a number of years, with a previous request to demolish it refused by Hull City Council.
The planning application includes a two-storey side extension, a 14-space car park and cycle storage.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, despite permission being granted for the building to become a 23-bedroom house in multiple occupation earlier this year, it has remained empty.
The new planning statement reads: "The reuse of the building has a number of indirect benefits, primarily economic, in terms of increasing the quantity and range of tourism accommodation available to visitors, supporting the vibrancy of the area and the services, shops and facilities that are on offer."
It adds that the proposed extension would complement the historic building and would conceal an existing "unsympathetic" extension.
