An exhibition by a group of Sikh women has opened at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre.

The Leicestershire museum is hosting the display about strong women throughout history.

Leicestershire County Council, which runs the centre, worked with members of Leicester's Sikh Community on the project.

The display, which first opened on Saturday, would be open until October.

The display includes portraits of inspiring Sikh women from India and medieval English women.

Esther Shaw from Culture Leicestershire said: "Much is known about the powerful women of the Wars of the Roses, and this exhibition explores their medieval peers in Punjab and the paths they forged for generations of Sikh women around the world."

Surinder Kaur, from the Bosworth Sikh Women's Project, said: "It's something very unique which we've started.

"There are so many people who don't know about the Sikh Community and I think they will learn from us."

Gurpreet Kaur, also from the Bosworth Sikh Women’s Project, enjoyed finding out so much about Sikh women, adding: "Their contribution to history, their bravery, their spirituality... we're so excited to share all of our findings with others."

The display will be open until October.
