Cyclist killed in crash near city hospital named
Alex Dunlop/BBCA cyclist killed in a crash near a city hospital has been named by a coroner.
Edward Cooke, 55, died in Watton Road, Norwich, at the junction with Colney Lane, at about 05:10 GMT on 9 November.
An inquest into the plumber's death was opened and adjourned at Norfolk Coroner's Court on Tuesday.
Three men arrested in connection with the crash remained on police bail.
Alex Dunlop/BBCNorfolk Police said Mr Cooke was cycling in the direction of Hethersett, close to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, when he was involved in a collision with a black Mercedes CLA 200 travelling in the same direction.
He died at the scene from multiple severe, traumatic injuries, the inquest heard.
Three men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.
The driver of the Mercedes was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Andrew Turner/BBCNorfolk's senior coroner, Jacqueline Lake, said Mr Cooke was born in Newham, East London in December 1967 but lived in Hethersett at the time of his death.
Police said seven cyclists had been killed on Norfolk's roads so far this year, compared with four in 2022.
In October, Norfolk County Council said it had worked hard to improve the experience for cyclists across Norwich.
