Musician Noddy Holder has signed up to sponsor an under-7's football team.

The Slade frontman, who is known to be a Wolves supporter, has invested in Bridgnorth Spartans Under-7's Red team, as the front-of-shirt sponsor for their home kit.

Kelly Woodcock, who is the club's co-chair, said: "I couldn't believe it when I found out and we're all blown away that he has chosen to support our club".

Holder, from Walsall, wanted to support the next generation of players in the Midlands and hoped there would be some future Wolves players among them.

Mrs Woodcock said the club, which provides sessions for all ages and abilities, relies on the support of local people and businesses and "couldn't survive" without them.

Established in 1987, the Spartans have more than 500 members and 100 volunteers, with 24 competitive teams ranging from under-7s to under-18s, accessibility football for children with additional needs, adult teams and a walking football group.

The Slade legend said: "I have done lots of things in my life but being on the front of a football shirt is a first and I love it!"
