A major route through Hertfordshire has been closed after a collision.

National Highways said the A1(M) was closed northbound between junction four, for Hatfield, and junction five, for Welwyn Garden City, since about 05:00 GMT. Traffic was stopped on the southbound side but has now been released.

It said that emergency services were in attendance and added that delays were expected.

Hertfordshire Police asked for motorists to avoid the area while officers deal with the collision.
