Bridge reopens in time for Christmas

A bridge has reopened in time for Christmas after being closed since April.

The Network Rail bridge on Badgeworth Road was closed following an inspection that found embankments were beginning to fail on the approach to the bridge, and sections of the road had subsided.

A full road closure was put in place "for safety reasons", Gloucestershire County Council said.

During the closure, Network Rail stabilised the embankments with piling and oversaw the resurfacing of the road, which reopened this week.

Jason Humm, director of transport and highways at the county council, said he was "pleased" the bridge had reopened "in time for Christmas".

"Network Rail has carried out extensive work to stabilise the embankments and make the road safe for use again," he said.

"This was a challenging job and we thank local residents for their patience during the works."
