Surrey train services over Christmas and New Year

Many train services across Surrey will be altered during the festive period, a rail operators says.

From 21 December, fewer services than usual will run as the rail network gets ready for the Christmas and New Year period.

Network Rail often uses the time to do large-scale engineering works and there are due to be several closures through Woking over the next two weeks.

We take a look at the rail services in Surrey that South Western Railway (SWR) says it will be running over the next two weeks.

  • 21 December: SWR says it will be operating a normal Saturday timetable. Emergency engineering work means buses will operate between Surbiton and Guildford via Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon, and between Epsom and Guildford instead of trains.
  • 22 December: A normal Sunday timetable will operate, apart from between Petersfield and Portsmouth Harbour, Motspur Park and Chessington South, and Virginia Water and Weybridge, where buses will replace trains. Emergency engineering work means buses will operate between Surbiton and Guildford via Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon, and between Epsom and Guildford instead of trains.
  • 23 December: An amended Saturday timetable will be in place. Buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will run to a revised timetable, and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking. Emergency engineering work means buses will operate between Surbiton and Guildford via Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon, and between Epsom and Guildford instead of trains.
  • 24 December: An amended Saturday timetable will be in place. Buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will run to a revised timetable, and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking. Train services will finish earlier than usual. Emergency engineering work means buses will operate between Surbiton and Guildford via Cobham & Stoke D'Abernon, and between Epsom and Guildford instead of trains.
  • 25 December: No SWR services will operate on Christmas Day.
  • 26 December: No SWR services will operate on Boxing Day.
  • 27 December: An amended Saturday timetable will be in place. Buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will run to a revised timetable, and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking.
  • 28 December: A normal Saturday timetable will be in place. Buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will be revised and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking. Some train services will be altered due to a rugby match at Twickenham Stadium.
  • 29 December: A normal Sunday timetable will be in place but buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will be running to a revised timetable, and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking.
  • 30 December: An amended Saturday timetable will be in place and buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. SWR's services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will be revised and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking.
  • 31 December: An amended Saturday timetable will be in place and buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. SWR's services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will be revised and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking. SWR will run additional services into the early hours of 1 January.
  • 1 January: A Sunday timetable will be in operation but buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. SWR's services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will be revised and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking.
  • 2 & 3 January: An amended Saturday timetable will be in place and buses will replace trains between Woking and Farnborough/Aldershot. SWR's services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will be revised and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking.
  • 4 January: A normal Saturday timetable will be in place but buses will replace trains between Woking and Basingstoke/Aldershot. SWR's services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids/Salisbury/Alton/Portsmouth via Eastleigh will start and terminate at alternative stations. Waterloo to Weymouth services will be revised and more services will run between Waterloo and Woking.
  • 5 January: A normal Sunday timetable will operate, apart from between Leatherhead and Dorking, and between Weybridge and Winchester/Andover/Aldershot where buses will replace trains.
