A hotel and rail yard could be built on the campus under the plans

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has put forward proposals to build a hotel on parts of its Inverness Campus.

The 215-acre (87ha) site is already home to Inverness College UHI, the NHS' Highland National Treatment Centre and several science businesses.

Under the plans, the hotel would cover 86,111 sq ft (8,000 sq m) of floor space.

A proposal of application notice (PAN) outlining the plans has been submitted to Highland Council.

The council's planning papers had mentioned the project would also include a rail yard, but the local authority said this had been added in error.

Highland Council planning officers have recommended plans for Adersier's Gun Lodge Hotel are approved

The PAN is to go before next week's meeting of the local authority's south planning applications committee.

It will also be asked to discuss proposals to revive the fortunes of Ardersier's closed down Gun Lodge Hotel.

Developer Shamrock Wellbeing has proposed creating a wellness centre offering alternative treatments.

Council planning officers have recommended granting that project full planning permission.
