A body has been found during the search for a 16-year-old boy who went missing after getting into difficulty while swimming near Peterborough.

Emergency services were called to Crown Lakes, near Farcet, at 16:00 BST on Thursday, and a body was found in the lake just before midnight.

While formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be that of the missing boy, Cambridgeshire Police said.

The case will be handed to the coroner, it added.

Walkers in the area said it was hard to believe something so tragic could have happened in "such a lovely place".

Kevin Andrews-Mead told the BBC: "It's such a lovely place, I can see how you could be tricked into believing it's safe... the water out there is so deep and cold.

"This is a place of joy where you come to walk your dog and be happy, a nice place.

"You don't expect that sort of thing to happen."
