Banking hub announced in 'victory' for Dorking
A new banking hub will be installed in Dorking over the coming months, it has been confirmed.
These shared spaces allow customers from all the major banks to access services such as withdrawing or paying in cash and paying bills.
LINK, which works to give the public access to the cash machine network, has also recommended "an automated deposit service" for Leatherhead following an application by Mole Valley District Council. There are no longer physical bank branches in either Surrey town, only building societies.
Council leader Stephen Cooksey said LINK's decision was a "victory for our district".
"We have been pushing for banking hubs to replace closed bank branches in the district since July 2022 as we know how vital access to banking services is for our residents and businesses," he said.
"Successfully securing a banking hub for Dorking (and hopefully Leatherhead) will provide a much-needed solution for our community, ensuring access to essential financial services can continue."
The council remains "committed" to delivering a banking hub in Leatherhead and is currently exploring its options for appeal, he added.
Fifteen new hubs were unveiled in September, including Hailsham in East Sussex and Sheerness in Kent.
