Ports of Jersey will soon start dismantling a former airport hangar, having receiving planning permission for its removal earlier this year.

The building, which was constructed in 1958, has not housed aircraft for 25 years.

Ports of Jersey said in recent years it had been used to store ground equipment but was now empty.

It said it aimed to have dismantled the entire structure "during the first quarter of 2025" with work set to begin in the "next few weeks".

'Asbestos survey'

"RoK were successful in winning a competitive tender for the work, in partnership with the Jersey Demolition Company," Ports of Jersey said.

"The two companies are now conducting surveys and condition reports on the building, and a specialist company has been contracted to carry out an asbestos survey to ensure its safe removal."

Airport operations director, Ashley Maggs, added: “As the building is dismantled we will be evaluating the site and considering its future use, once the airport’s future operational requirements are finalised.”
