Rail delays as engineering works overrun

Trains between Southampton Central and Basingstoke are expected to be disrupted until 14:00 GMT

Rail travellers are facing delays and cancellations after engineering works overran.

South Western Railway said lines had been unable to reopen until 07:00 GMT because the work between Eastleigh and Basingstoke was not finished on time.

It means trains between Southampton Central and Basingstoke will be cancelled or diverted.

National Rail says disruption is to be expected until 14:00 GMT. Rail passenger can use their train tickets on Bluestar buses.

Routes affected:

  • CrossCountry between Manchester Piccadilly / Nottingham / Birmingham New Street and Bournemouth, and also between Manchester Piccadilly and Southampton Central
  • South Western Railway between Winchester and Portsmouth Harbour / Bournemouth / Poole, and also between London Waterloo and Southampton Central / Portsmouth Harbour / Bournemouth / Weymouth
