Work to reconstruct Derringham Street in Hull will start on 24 February, Hull City Council said.

The first phase of work to reconstruct and resurface a road in Hull will start later this month, the council has confirmed.

Hull City Council said work on Derringham Street, between Morton Street and the Spring Bank junction, would be carried out in three phases starting on 24 February.

Residents have been reassured that disruption will be kept to a minimum but the road will be closed to traffic and diversions will be in place.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said it would "futureproof the road network".

The following sections of the road will be fully closed during each phase:

  • 24 February - 9 March: Spring Bank junction to the northern gate of Jacksons Bakery
  • 10 March - 16 March: Junction at Morton Street
  • 17 March - 30 March: Northern gate of Jacksons Bakery to the Morton Street junction

The council said residents and businesses would receive a letter with further information ahead of the work starting.

Ieronimo said: "This section of the carriageway is in poor condition, so I am happy to hear the reconstruction and resurfacing work will be taking place.

"We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient, and we thank residents and motorists for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out these works."
