The Priory in Worksop looks set for sweeping changes

Plans for a major overhaul of a Nottinghamshire town’s shopping centre will be decided on Wednesday.

A scheme to redevelop The Priory shopping centre in Worksop using £20m of government “Levelling Up” funding will be ruled over by planners.

If approved by Bassetlaw District Council, an entertainment complex featuring a tenpin bowling alley, trampoline park and indoor soft play will be built, and an indoor market and food court added to the existing centre.

The scheme, which the Local Democracy Reporting Service said is recommended for approval, also includes the creation of 44 new homes.

The details of the housing will need to be approved in a second application.

Some shopping areas will also be refurbished and many of the existing outer façades will be replaced.

The plans would require some of the shops and food venues to the east of the current Priory Centre to be demolished.

Documents said it will create “a true destination with clearer entrances” and improved public spaces.

The pedestrian walkways between Bridge Street and Ryton Street will be preserved.

A new “green footpath” and towpath link will also be created along Chesterfield Canal, the documents add.

If approved, the project is expected to be completed by early 2026.
