Thieves ram-raided a Morrisons supermarket before stealing money from cash machines.

A white Mercedes Sprinter van and power tools were used to gain access to three ATMs at the store in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, at about 02:00 BST on Thursday.

Money was taken from two of the machines and the thieves left in a black vehicle before officers arrived, Staffordshire Police said.

The van, which was stolen from an address in Darlaston, Walsall, on Saturday, was left at the scene.

The shop’s shutters were damaged in the incident along with the cash machines but nobody was injured.

Police have not confirmed how many people were believed to have been involved and a spokesperson said the amount of cash taken was not yet known.

Det Sgt Andrew Durber has urged home and business owners to make sure their properties and vehicles are secure.
