An investigation has been launched over a fire which broke out in a Plymouth flat block.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service said it was called to the incident on Vauxhall Street at about 19:45 on Thursday after smoke was seen coming from the building's top floor in the St Peter and the Waterfront area of the city.

The fire service said crews from Camels Head, Plymstock and Greenbank attended the scene along with paramedics and police, who closed the road.

Firefighters said all people had been evacuated from the flats and an investigation to determine the blaze's cause was ongoing.

One person suffered smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics, the fire service added.

A statement from firefighters said the crews were able to extinguish the flames and ventilate the building for leftover smoke before leaving the scene at about 22:35.
