Plans for 170 homes in countryside submitted

A 170-home housing estate could be built in the Leicestershire countryside after plans were submitted.
Developer Barratt David Wilson Homes has lodged a planning application for the development for land off Leicester Road, near Fleckney.
Documents put to Harborough District Council seeks approval for 102 market homes and 68 affordable homes.
The developer said the scheme would prioritise "pedestrian and cycle use" and help "establish a sustainable community".
The earmarked land is spread over 8.81 hectares - the equivalent of 13 standard football pitches, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).
As part of the plans, a reduced 40mph speed limit on Leicester Road could be extended for 600m northbound, as well as an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing.
A public consultation on the plans will be open until 24 April with a decision due to be made by the council by 24 June.
