Appeal after three-storey apartment block rejected
A developer which wanted to build a three-storey city centre apartment building has appealed after only being given permission for two storeys.
Earlier this year, Wolverhampton councillors agreed a three-storey building in Castle Street would be overbearing and “out of place” and “competing” with the listed buildings in Queen Street.
They approved an alternative application put forward by the same developer, AAJ Property Management, for a two-storey, four apartment block instead.
The appeal has now been made to the government’s planning inspector, who has the power to overrule the council.
The application involves the demolition of a garage and the developer said it would be a "significant improvement" and the proposals would "provide an exciting opportunity to remove a detrimental building within the conservation area".
But members of the council's planning committee disagreed and and also ruled some of the details in the work, particularly the windows, would be “out of character” and not match neighbouring buildings.
