Sessions to tackle isolation launched

Cookery classes and art therapy sessions are among a series of projects launched to help reduce social isolation and increase physical activity for people aged over 65.
Over 1,000 people in Merseyside are expected to benefit from 13 new schemes in Sefton which also include creative writing, music and fitness classes.
The projects are funded by £45,000 of Sefton Council Public Health money and coordinated by Sefton Council for Voluntary Service (CVS).
Councillor Mhairi Doyle, Sefton Council's cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said the projects had been designed "to enjoyable and fun".

"Getting together with others at sessions like this and learning new skills can help older people with their confidence, general mood and mental health," she said.
"They involve physical activities that are so important to keep us moving.
"These are all in line with Sefton Council's aim of helping older people live independently and safely in their own homes."
Activities will take place across the borough, including sessions for men at Sean's Place in Bootle, and sessions for women at Swan Women's Centre in Litherland.
Angela White Chief Executive of Sefton CVS said: "We are proud to support these incredible voluntary, community and faith projects that will make a positive difference in the lives of adults aged over 65 years across Sefton.
"By funding activities that promote social connections, wellbeing, and lifelong learning, we are helping to create a more inclusive and supportive environment.
"Together, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to stay active, engaged, and inspired."
The projects will run until October.
