Work has started on a new playground and the refurbishment of an older one in St Helier.

Ratepayers who attended a parish assembly last July backed plans for the £750,000 project, said the Parish of St Helier.

It said the new playground at Parade Gardens would feature an embankment tunnel, swings, a xylophone and a playhouse for children aged six and under.

The existing play area for children aged seven and over is to be improved with new play equipment, including a wheelchair accessible trampoline, a standing seesaw and a climbing dome.

The parish said the equipment had been selected "to give children long-lasting positive memories and fun for the best start in life", and the designs were inspired by the new playground in St Martin.

It said the work was scheduled to be completed by 30 April.
