Three men have been arrested after a man was found with a gunshot wound to his arm, police have said.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said they were called at 22:08 GMT on Thursday to reports that a man had been "seriously assaulted" at the junction of St Mark's Road, Northbrook Road and Nichols Road in Southampton.

On Friday, the force said officers arrested a 33-year-old man and 32-year-old man, both from Southampton, on suspicion of attempted murder, and a 25-year-old man from Portsmouth on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three remain in police custody.

Southampton Ch Insp Chris Douglas said police did not believe there was a wider risk to the public.

"Based on the information known to us at this time we are not actively seeking anyone else in connection with this incident, and we do believe that all those involved are known to each other," he said.

"Police will remain in the area over the weekend, I urge you to approach them if you have any concerns, information or questions."

The injured man, aged in his 30s, is in a stable condition in hospital, police say.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary urged anyone with information to come forward.
