Hotel to be sold as owners retire after 40 years

A Guernsey hotel is being sold for the first time in 40 years, as the owners are retiring.

La Barbarie Hotel in St Martins is owned by business partners Andrew Wright and Andy Coleman.

Mr Wright bought the hotel in 1986, and worked with Mr Coleman to convert the two-star self catering units into a four-star hotel.

Mr Wright said transforming the business had been "a hugely satisfying endeavour" and they are both "immensely proud" of their work.

"We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our outstanding staff for their remarkable hard work and dedication over the years, without them the hotel would not have achieved its success," he added.

Originally a small monastery, the building was converted to a hotel in 1950.

Mr Coleman joined the hotel team in 1991, and he and Mr Wright worked to invest and transform the property.

The pair's renovations, which included creating more air conditioned en-suite bedrooms and upgrading the foyer and restaurant, led to the business receiving two four-star ratings from AA and Visit Guernsey in 2019.
