Thousands of people are expected to attend a free fireworks display in Norfolk.

The Fawkes in the Walks event takes place in King's Lynn on Friday evening.

West Norfolk Borough Council spends £18,000 to put it on, which is funded by car parking charges.

Bal Anota, the independent cabinet member for events and open space at the council, said it was one of his favourite events.

The spectacle, which has been running for 16 years, is due to get under way at 18:00 GMT, with fireworks due to start at 20:00.

Other live entertainment will include music from local three-piece band Bear Club and DJ sets from Radio West Norfolk presenter Simon Rowe.

Last year's event was delayed by a week due to heavy rain and flooding, but the forecast on this occasion is dry.

David Copeland is the local district commander at Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

He wants people planning their own events to think again.

"You run the risk of maybe a bonfire getting out of control - we see that quite a lot this time of year.

"Last year we actually had a firework set fire to a neighbouring property that spread into the house.

"Fortunately no-one was hurt but you can imagine the anxiety that caused."
