Part of motorway closed by 'accidental' lorry fire

Part of a motorway has been closed after a lorry fire.

Emergency services, including six fire crews, were called to the M11 northbound, between Harston and Cambridge at about 05:20 GMT.

Cambridgeshire Police said the road would remain closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and cleaned the road surface.

The fire service said the cause of the fire was "accidental".

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended along with the fire service and there were no injuries and no arrests.

"Officers left the scene at about 08:20 GMT and road closures were left with highways."

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 05:33 with crews from Sawston, Cottenham, Cambridge and Burwell sent.

A water carrier from Newmarket in Suffolk, and a crew from Royston in Hertfordshire, also attended.

They wore breathing apparatus and crews started returning to their stations by 07:50.

There have also been delays on the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge due to an accident.
