Traffic camera goes live at town centre junction
Another traffic camera which will detect motorists who flout banned turnings at a busy town centre junction has gone live.
The enforcement camera is situated on Horseshoe Street in Northampton, where a camera already captures vehicles turning left out of Marefair.
From Monday, the new equipment will centre on those that turn left from Horseshoe Street on to Marefair, and right into Gold Street.
"We hope that they will act as a deterrent to those that continually ignore the rules," said Phil Larratt, West Northamptonshire Council's cabinet member for highways and transport.
He added that he hoped "residents will be supportive of our efforts to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers and reduce the risk of accidents".
The new camera follows the addition of a similar device at the same junction last month.
There will be a six-month grace period on new devices, with a warning notice issued for first offences by any vehicle.
The council said that from June any offence would incur a penalty charge notice (PCN) of £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days.
Another camera at the top end of Gold Street, between College Street and Bridge Street is set to go live on 13 January - and will not have a six-month warning period.
It will enforce existing bus lane regulations similar to The Drapery, with any motorists receiving an instant PCN.
