Homes evacuated due to 5G mast blaze

A 5G mast in Warwickshire has been badly damaged in a fire, prompting nearby homes to be evacuated.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was alerted to the fire in Sunbeam Close in Rugby at about 20:00 BST.

Fifteen firefighters were sent to the scene, with Warwickshire Police also helping evacuate people from homes nearby while the fire was dealt with.

The tower suffered about 80% damage in the fire which was believed to have started accidentally, the fire service said.

Warwickshire Police said it was investigating the incident and had been carrying out inquiries in the area.

Firefighters visited the scene on Tuesday morning to inspect the damage, the fire service added.
