Man appears in court charged with attempted murder

A man has appeared in court after another man suffered serious injuries in a stabbing outside a shop in Nottinghamshire.
Police were called to Westdale Lane East, Gedling, to reports a man in his 30s had been stabbed multiple times outside the Co-op store at about 22:30 BST on Tuesday 6 May.
Simon McHugh, 45, of Harrogate Road in Carlton, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a bladed article in a public place and theft of a motor vehicle.
Mr McHugh, who did not enter a plea at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, spoke to confirm his name and date of birth and was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 9 June.
'Serious condition'
The court heard he had also been charged with two counts of false imprisonment, assault, possession of a knife and two counts of making threats to kill following incidents in Derbyshire the day before.
Addressing Mr McHugh, district judge Katie Rafter said: "[You are accused of] extremely serious offences and - as you know - the victim remains in a serious condition.
"I am going to remand you in custody."
