The Brighton Winter Fayre was due to take place on Saturday and Sunday

High winds have forced the closure of the Brighton Winter Fayre for the second time this month.

Organisers announced the event would remain closed for what would have been its final weekend, adding they had tried to find alternative venues but could not at such short notice.

The fayre includes workshops, live entertainment and market stalls, as well as street food and drink.

An announcement on Friday said: "We're very sad to be shutting our doors earlier than planned, but we hope everyone understands that safety comes first."

Met Office predictions of high winds over the weekend prompted the closure.

Organisers said all ticket holders would be contacted directly and refunded over the coming days.

The event was originally scheduled to be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 GMT until 23:00.

A statement said: "Our sincere thanks go to our fantastic staff and volunteers, and the amazing support received from our stakeholders.

"A special thanks is extended to the wonderful people of Brighton who visited us in their thousands, and showed the true spirit of the festive season."

The event was also cancelled on the first weekend of December due to Storm Darragh, which brought strong winds, flooding and disruption across the country.
