Neighbours roll up sleeves to clean up estate

Children were rewarded with Easter eggs as they took part in a big clean-up on a Grimsby estate.

Eleven skips have been placed around the Nunsthorpe estate to try to stop rubbish being dumped on the streets.

The event was organised by Lincolnshire Housing Partnership and the Oasis Hub South school.

Michelle Donner, community lead at the school, said: "By 10:00 this morning, at least three of the skips were full, so we have had extra skips brought in".

The organisers said residents had asked for the skips, which have been paid for through company sponsorships.

Nunsthorpe resident Jennifer took part with her children Daisy and Thea-Mai. They brought rubbish including old broken toys from their garden.

Jennifer said: "Quite a lot of families on the estate can't afford to pay hundreds to remove rubbish from their gardens. I don't drive so I can't get to the tip. It ends up just piled in your garden".

It is hoped similar schemes can be set up in other parts of North East Lincolnshire.
