Woman accused of attempted murder of man and child
A woman has gone on trial accused of trying to murder her husband and a child.
Prosecutors claim Jacqueline Mounsey stabbed Mark Bennett and the child in the neck, before injuring herself in Carlisle.
Carlisle Crown Court was told police were called to Whernside, in the Morton area of the city, on 10 June where officers found three people with stab wounds.
Ms Mounsey, 53, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, which she denies.
Prosecutor Iain Simkin KC said in his opening statement this would be a "difficult and tragic case".
He said it was the Crown's contention that Ms Mounsey was "trying to kill, and wanted to kill" and that she had used "persistent, deadly violence".
The trial is expected to last 10 days.
