Sport England is investing £250m funding over the next five years to over 90 areas across the country

Councils in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire have welcomed funding in a bid to get people more active.

Boston, East Lindsey, North East Lincolnshire and Hull are among an initial 53 places to receive a portion of £250m funding from Sport England.

The areas chosen to receive the money are in the top 10% in the country for inactivity, social need, deprivation and health inequality.

North East Lincolnshire Council said it had been awarded £400,000.

'Break down barriers'

Sport England said the investment amount for different areas would be based on community need and the right intervention for the place.

Jonathan Frary, director of strategy and place for Active Lincolnshire, said the investment in Boston and East Lindsey would be "sustainable and long-term".

Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Sport England's executive director for place, said: "Through our Place Expansion programme we will work with local partners and communities to break down the barriers to physical activity so that everyone has equal access to a more active life."
