Belfast-based artist's Grammy nod alongside Beyoncé, The Weeknd

Northern Irish hip-hop artist Jordan Adetunji has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Melodic Rap performance.

The Belfast rapper was named in the shortlists alongside Beyoncé and the Weeknd for his song Kehlani, which has amassed 300 million streams worldwide.

Also among the nominees are Dublin post-punk group Fontaines D.C, who compete for Best Rock Album for their fourth album Romance, and Best Alternative Music Performance for the single Starbuster.

The 67th Grammy Awards, will take place in Los Angeles on the 2 February.

Adetunji was born in Croydon, London and moved to Belfast when he was 10.

Jordan started off by posting rap videos to Facebook, over time incorporating other elements, like the guitar, into his music.

He managed to gain greater musical recognition posting his music to Tiktok resulting in him being snapped up by RCA records, after being spotted by Bring Me the Horizon’s Oli Sykes, due to a song Adetunji made called 'Woke Up.'

After building up his following he released his debut mixtape, Rock 'n' Rave, in 2023.

His song Kehlani is nominated for a performance containing elements of R&B melodies and rap and is nominated alongside Beyoncé featuring Linda Martell & Shaboozey and Future & Metro Boomin featuring the Weeknd.

Dublin band Fontaines D.C received two nominations

Dublin post-punk band Fontaines D.C. received two nominations, one in the best rock album category alongside The Black Crowes, Green Day, IDLES, Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones and Jack White.

They were also nominated in the best alternative music performance category alongside Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Kim Gordon, St. Vincent and Cage The Elephant.

In 2022, Adetunji told BBC News NI: “My first track was played on Radio Ulster and I always remember it.

“Things like BBC Across The Line are fantastic for upcoming artists, it all has a part to play with where I am.”
