Man arrested after death of four-month-old baby
A criminal investigation has been launched following the death of a baby in Devon, police have said.
Devon and Cornwall Police said officers had been called to a caravan on the outskirts of Yealmpton, near Plymouth, over concerns for welfare at about 13:45 GMT on Wednesday.
The force said a four-month-old baby boy had been treated by ambulance crews, but had been confirmed dead at the scene.
A 41-year-old man from Plymouth had been arrested for criminal offences including child neglect, it said.
'Devastating'
The force said the man had been taken into police custody and bailed pending further inquiries.
The baby's next of kin have been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers.
Det Insp Dave Egan said inquiries were "ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and how the death has occurred".
"The death of a young baby is devastating, and our thoughts are with his family at this awful time," Mr Egan said.
"I know that an incident of this nature will cause concern amongst the community, but I must ask that you do not speculate about this matter."
