Experts remove about 80 Asian hornets from home

Hornet experts have destroyed two nests in Jersey after removing about 80 of the insects from a person's home.

Jersey's Asian Hornet Group said it started to receive reported sightings of the insects from people living in St Helier on Monday.

Responders said hornets were coming down the chimney of one property, and experts collected about 80 of them from inside the spare room.

John de Carteret from the group said the hornets caused "chaos" in the surrounding area before the nests were tracked down and destroyed on Thursday,

"Many other properties had hornets flying aimlessly about" he said.

Pest controllers found one nest behind the panels of a derelict house, and another nest was spotted on the ground nearby.

The hornet group said both nests had been blown to the ground by strong winds and were safely destroyed when found.
