Tinsel tractor run goes ahead despite wet weather

About 35 tractors trimmed up for Christmas drove through parts of North Yorkshire to raise money for charity.

The Tinsel Tractor Run left Ripon at about 15:00 GMT on Saturday, passing through Bishop Monkton, Boroughbridge and Skelton before returning to Ripon Market Square at about 18:00 GMT.

Volunteers collected donations along the route and hoped to raise about £2,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research in Harrogate.

Brian Chandler from the Tinsel Tractor Run said it went ahead despite wet and windy weather conditions amid Storm Darragh.

Speaking on Saturday morning, he said: "We are still going ahead, it's very dry and mild and we are good to go.

"We're all looking forward to it, some guys who don't have cabs on their tractors might be a bit apprehensive, but you've got to do it."

He added: "Last year we only had 20 tractors and we raised £1,640.

"This year we are trying to rase £2,000."
