Two publicly-accessible defibrillators have been stolen from a town, as police issue a description of a suspect.

An orange defibrillator was taken from Skelton Civic Centre on Coniston Road at about 20:35 BST on 9 June, while a second defibrillator was stolen from Skelton Methodist Church in Skelton Green the same day.

Police said the life-saving equipment was worth thousands of pounds.

Cleveland Police has issued a description of a man officers want to speak who is white, aged about 20-35-years-old, with a large build and who was wearing a grey top, black bottoms, a black cap and white trainers.

The force urged anyone who knows the identity of the man, or has CCTV coverage of the area to get in touch.

Skelton and Brotton Parish Council said there was no record of the defibrillators being requested the evening they were stolen.

"We do have CCTV footage of the man taking the defibrillator, but at the moment we hope that there is an innocent explanation so are not publishing it at this stage," the council said.
