Two people have been arrested and £28,000 in cash, as well as drugs and Rolex watches, have been seized by police, after an altercation outside a city centre bar.

Merseyside Police made the arrests following an incident on Mathew Street in Liverpool on Saturday night, in which a man was detained and found in possession of "a large wrap of white powder and a large quantity of cash".

A subsequent warrant to search his home address led to police finding a further £28,000 in cash, suspected heroin, cannabis, watches and other items at a house in Kirkby.

During the course of the search, a woman was also detained at the address, and was arrested.

A 38-year-old man from Kirkby has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs; possession with intent to supply Class B drugs; possession of criminal property; and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

A 37-year-old woman was also detained at the address, and arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class and Class B drugs; and possession of criminal property.

Merseyside Police said both have now been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.

Ch Insp Chris Ruane said: "It is fair to say that this night out didn't end exactly as planned, and now a man and woman will be under investigation in connection with multiple offences.

“The door staff and our officer acted swiftly and decisively to deal with and detain the man, and to prevent any further incidents".

Police have urged anyone with any information to get in touch.
