A major new student accommodation complex featuring almost 400 flats can be built in Nottingham.

The city council has approved a second phase of student flats at the city's Island Quarter in Manvers Street.

It follows the completion of the adjacent 693-bed Winfield Court, which opened its doors in September.

Developer Conygar said the new 394 spaces would be split across four adjoining blocks ranging from seven to 11 storeys.

The plan will include 313 beds within "cluster flats" and a further 81 within single occupancy studios, as well as a gym, laundry room, lounges and "breakout areas", Conygar said.

Conygar, which bought the Island Quarter site in 2016, has agreed to financially contribute toward affordable housing, local employment and training opportunities, as well as operate a student management scheme.
