The closure of the A18 Mountain Road has been extended further as more wintry showers have been forecast across the Isle of Man.

The major route connecting the Douglas with the north will remain closed until at least midday on Thursday, the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) has confirmed.

A new yellow weather warning has been issued for moderate or heavy wintry showers from 18:00 until 06:00 on Thursday.

Ronaldsway Met Office said colder temperatures meant snow showers could fall as low as 400ft (121m) with accumulations of up 2.4in (6cm) in some places.

Forecasters said there was also a risk of wintry showers continuing throughout Wednesday, mostly on high ground above 1000ft (304m).

A yellow weather warning for frost and ice across the island issued on Tuesday remains in place until midday on Friday.

The DOI said its gritters had continued to "spread road salt in problem areas" across the island.

The Isle of Man Constabulary has issued a renewed plea for motorists to take care on the island's roads and drive to the icy conditions.
